One held for smuggling wood to make cricket bats

Pathankot, Dec 28 (PTI) Police today arrested one person and recovered wood for making cricket bats worth Rs 2.25 lakh which he had smuggled from neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir. The wood was meant to be sold to a cricket bat making factory in Punjab.

Pathankot SP Bhupinderjit Singh Virk said Nirmal Singh, a resident of Lahri Baian village was arrested and police seized the wood from his truck. Virk said, "During preliminary interrogation he confessed he had been smuggling wood for this purpose from J-K in the past and selling the same to a firm in Jalandhar.
