Govt plans celebrations across Himachal

BJP govt turns 2 : Special focus on Mandi, venue for state-level function

With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) completing two years in the government on December 30, the state unit has decided to make it a grand event like last year. It has planned elaborate celebrations across the state, with a state-level function scheduled in Mandi district.

After Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's home district Hamipur, Mandi has been the biggest gainer as it has three ministers in the Cabinet. The central district of the state has also been showered with many sops, such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the ESIC Medical College, in the government sector.

According to sources in the state BJP, the objective behind putting up a big show in Mandi is to reinforce the party's strength in the district.

On December 30, the CM is expected to address a rally at Seri ground in Mandi. State BJP in-charge Satya Pal Jain, state BJP president Khimi Ram, three ministers from the district Jai Ram Thakur (Rural Development), Mahinder Singh (Transport) and Gulab Singh Thakur (Public Works) will be present too.

It will also be a big celebration time for the government in Shimla district, where the BJP found its foothold this year in the Parliamentary election and the Assembly byelection (at Rohru).

Khimi Ram said Cabinet ministers would try to cover as many districts as possible along with one state-level leader for the celebrations.

Forest Minister J P Nadda will go to Kullu, Irrigation and Public Health Minister Ravinder Singh Ravi will be at Hamirpur, BJP national vice-president Shanta Kumar will go to Kangra, Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur will be at Una and MPs Virender Kashyap and Rajan Sushant will concentrate on their home districts of Shimla and Kangra, respectively.

The CM will once again lay foundation stone for the Mandi bus stand, for which former telecom minister Sukh Ram had laid stone in 1993. The bus stand could never be constructed even though former MP and sitting MLA Anil Sharma sanctioned Rs 50 lakh in the past.
